Services for Brain Awareness Week 2008 Partners

The "Partner" section of the Brain Awareness Week Web site, www.dana.org/brainweek, has been developed to help our campaign partners consider ways in which their organizations may participate in Brain Awareness Week (BAW) 2008. It provides resources to use during events and describes a range of activities – from community outreach programs to media efforts – that will contribute to this international effort to promote brain research. We hope you will find some ideas that are appropriate to the resources and interests of your organization.

Good luck and thanks for joining us in this important endeavor!

Campaign Services

As a partner in BAW 2008, your organization can take advantage of a number of resources and services provided by the Campaign Clearinghouse. These include information to assist you in planning public programs during BAW, an online calendar to promote your activities, and the availability of bulk quantities of publications and stickers to distribute at your events. All information and graphics can be downloaded from this Web site. Instructions for downloading and reproducing are included where appropriate. We would appreciate the following credit line on all reprints: "Reprinted with permission of the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives".

Neuroscience Education
Neuroscience Education (NeuroEd) focuses on educational outreach, with a special focus on the student. The majority of programs are organized during Brain Awareness Week, but the aim is for sustainable, long-term programs with two goals in mind: 1) to teach students about brain function and brain diseases and disorders, and 2) to inspire an interest in students to become the next generation of neuroscientists. By linking scientists with students and organizing partnerships within local communities, participants contribute their own expertise. Schools provide the audience; museums, libraries, or hospitals might provide a venue; and academic research centers provide the science and the scientists. For more information, contact Karen Graham at (202) 408-8800 or e-mail kgraham@dana.org.

International Calendar of Events
The International Calendar of Events is maintained by the Campaign Clearinghouse to promote partners' activities taking place immediately before, during, and after BAW. It is updated regularly on the campaign's Web site. The calendar is used by the Dana News Office to answer inquiries from journalists seeking information about local events. To post an event using our online event listing form, click here.
If you are unable to submit an online form, we have prepared a printable form that may be faxed or mailed to the Campaign Clearinghouse.

Publications and Stickers
Publications and stickers are available to BAW partners in bulk quantities for distribution at their events. These items can be ordered online by filling out the Publications and Stickers Order Form. Please note that you will not be able to submit an online order form until you post your event information on the online calendar. If you are unable to submit an online form, we have also prepared a printable form. Order forms submitted via fax or mail will NOT be processed unless accompanied by an event listing form or description of how the materials will be used.

Networking Opportunities
BAW offers a unique opportunity for organizations to work together to reach their target audiences. The Clearinghouse database can put your organization in touch with others that are located in your area or share your specific interests or concerns. Consider cooperating with another group for an in-school program, or combine resources to expand the scope of your event. The more organizations cooperate, the broader the campaign reach.

Media
The News Office of the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives will be working to promote national media coverage of Brain Awareness Week and the progress made in brain research. This national effort is designed to enhance the media efforts of individual partners as they promote their own activities. Please be sure to inform the Campaign Clearinghouse about your activities so that the News Office may direct journalists to local events.
